The New Bedford Yacht Club in South Dartmouth, MA is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable 420 Race Coach for the Summer 2018 season (June-August). The NBYC 420 Race Team practices four days a week Monday-Thursday and competes in numerous local regattas. Housing is provided
Planning and running practice for the 420 Race Team. Assist morning instructional classes as needed. Learn how to motivate each sailor and help establish their goals for the season. Coaching weekend and midweek regattas, help coordinate travel and planning for regattas with the Sailing School Director, communicating to parents and sailors through weekly emails. Demonstrate the highest level of awareness and safety regarding weather, motorboats, class organization, personal discipline and conduct. The ideal candidate will be able to help foster the love of sailing while teaching racing. The class will have varying agrees of ability and commitment to the sport. The ideal candidate will know how to make sailing fun for each student.
Candidates must have complete knowledge of the 420 Class: rigging, class rules, and performance sailing techniques. Candidates need to have significant racing and coaching experience in the 420, a minimum of US Sailing Level 1 certification (Level 2 is preferred) or its equivalent, CPR/First Aid certification. Housing is included. Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience. This position is for 10 weeks. One week of prep at the beginning of the summer, 8 weeks of coaching, one week of putting boats away.
