Job Description
Position Summary - Head Coach

Candidates should have a strong racing background with the experience, capabilities, and passion for continuing growth of local sailors. The Head Coach must be a self-starter and able to work within a team as well as on their own. The position will begin with summer employment as a head coach reporting to the Waterfront Manager. For the Summer sessions the Head Coach will be responsible for coordinating daily activities and lesson plans with instructors and cooperating with the Waterfront Manager to manage daily operations and equipment needs. Extension into full year employment may be a possibility depending on fit and performance. Year round responsibilities will include coaching youth high level sailing and high school sailing teams as well as working to coordinate all after school sailing programs.

Duties And Responsibilities
Coaching: The Head Coach is responsible for all logistics surrounding coaching young students in various classes of boats ranging from dinghy class boats to small keel boats.

Coaching includes ages from 8 yrs to 18 yrs at various experience levels
High performance sailing, High School 420 coaching as well as intermediate and high level Optimist coaching experience is required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Setting up a curriculum that best suits a proper progression for each program
Arranging aspects of traveling to away events including organizing boats
Reaching out to parents and volunteers to assist with travel and regatta day
Working closely with other coaching staff assigned to the program
Regatta management

Teaching:
The Head Coach will teach sailing as part of SCYC's general course offerings throughout the year. Offerings and clinics may include summer sessions as well as after school sailing in Fall and Spring. Racing Clinics may be held separately during these sessions as well
STEM based school day experiences and sessions

Operations: This position works closely with the Waterfront Manager to assist in maintaining SCYC's fleet of sailboats.

Program Development: This position is instrumental in improving and expanding upon current programs and curriculum.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
US Sailing Level 1 min, Level 2 or 3 preferred
Minimum of 3 years of advanced racing coaching experience
Strong program and staff management skills
CPR/AED and First Aid

Compensation commensurate with experience
