The Carolina Yacht Club is located in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. The club is nestled on an island on the coast, which enables us to have both a ‘river’ venue (current, smaller course racing, low waves/ chop) and also an ocean venue after a short sail (30 minutes), which provides wind, waves and moderate current. The city of Wrightsville Beach is well known for its ‘wind and waves’ and you can frequently find locals surfing or kiting year round. Our venue is a smaller venue but is constantly busy during the summer months with sailors, members and regattas/ events. The club has a fleet of power boats that is used for the sailing programming and any regattas/ races hosted by the club.
The Head Dockmaster's primary responsibility is for the safety and security of Carolina Yacht Club members, their boats and the assets of the club.
Maintains open communication with Waterfront Director and General Manager at all times
Oversee Dockmaster team, assisting with support and leadership needs as required
Represent CYC in a professional manner at all times.
Provide the highest level of customer and guest services, expedite any and all requests (within reason)
Carry out routine cleaning duties that meet established quality standards for all marina-related operations
Perform marina-related duties such as securing boats to docks, connecting and monitoring utility services (power, water and telephone), assisting/ managing crane usage, waste disposal and general facility cleanliness
Routinely operate motor and water vehicles and various other mechanized equipment
Manage difficult customer situations; Respond promptly to customer needs; Solicit customer feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance
Assist Waterfront director and lead Dockmasters with regatta specific needs
Ensure a successful partnership with the Sailing Director/ Instructors, Club store and Office teams to ensure the members/ guests are satisfied with day to day happenings.
Examine the dock infrastructure early each day and report any damage or items for repair. Pay special attention to those items that may be a safety hazard. Ask the maintenance department to assist with corrective action. Dock hands should assist where possible. If the item is beyond the scope of capability of our in house personnel, then call the appropriate approved sub-contractor, as soon as possible, to correct. Time is of the essence to assure safety
Physical and Mental
This position requires the candidate to spend 90% off his or her work day in the outdoor Marina location
Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment
Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. Occasionally
Ability to stand for the entire work day
Working in wet and slippery conditions.
Frequently working in an outdoor, hot, and damp environment
Withstanding temperature extremes in outdoor environments and inclement weather
Reading and writing work-related documents in English
Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties
High School Diploma or equivalent experience required
3 years of experience in a customer service/marina setting
Sailing/ Boating Knowledge encouraged
North Carolina State boaters license (or NASBLA equivalent)
Strong communication skills
Current First Aid and CPR required
