Job Description
The Miles River Yacht Club is seeking a Head Instructor for its summer 2019 sailing camp. This position is a visible and substantial leadership position in the yacht club and the local community. The Head Instructor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the sailing camp, hiring and managing a staff, communicating with parents, and organizing regatta travel. Head Instructors make deep friendships with families and peers through their passion for sailing.

The Program:
MRYC is the Located in the historic eastern shore town of St. Michaels, MD. The Junior Sail Camp runs 6 weeks of camp instruction between June 17th and August 9th. With 200 junior sailors participating over the summer, an average of 60 students per week, 50 club-owned boats, and 15 instructors, MRYC operates one of the largest sailing programs on the Chesapeake Bay.

Job Responsibilities:
The Head Instructor leads the Junior Sailing Camp and works closely with the volunteer Junior Sail Director, Club Manager, and Club’s Junior Sail Committee. Candidates should have experience managing a staff of instructors, and a proven ability to plan, organize, and direct sailing programs. Candidates also need to enjoy working with young sailors, have a familiarity with racing, and the ability to communicate effectively with sailors, staff, and parents.

Responsibilities include:
• Hire, train, and manage a staff of 15 instructors
• Develop and assist instructors in curriculum and lesson plans
• Ensure students are in the right class and progressing toward goals
• Maintain powerboats, sailboats, and other camp equipment
• Organize regatta participants, logistics, and travel
• Run morning staff meetings to prepare coaches for the day
• Resolve coaching or class issues
• Oversee prep and break-down weeks

Requirements:
• US Sailing Level 1 Certification (Level 3 preferred)
• Experience in junior and collegiate sailing
• Experience teaching beginners through advanced racers
• Current First Aid and CPR Certification
• Must pass background screening and drug test
• Candidate will be available the first week in June until the third week of August

Compensation:
• Pay is commensurate with experience
• Housing is available
