Job Description
The Head of Instruction for the Hoofer Sailing Club is responsible for directing the instructional program of the Hoofer Sailing Club as well as coordinating some of the fundraising and development activities of the club, under the general direction and oversight of the Board of Captains, within the stated mission of the Club.

There are approximately 1,300 University students, faculty, staff, and Union members in the Club each year. In addition to regular club members, Hoofers instructs over 300 youth of ages 10-18 each summer through the Hoofer Youth Instruction Program. The Club operates on the water from about April 25 - October 31, depending on the weather. During the peak season, from June 15 - August 1 (corresponding somewhat to UW Madison's 8-week summer session), approximately 175 lessons are offered each week by a staff of 50-70 volunteer and paid, part-time and full-time instructors.

In addition to the Head of Instruction responsibilities which make up 80% of the position, the person in this position is also responsible for coaching the sailing team from late August through early May, which includes coaching on-the-water practices several days a weeks and attending the team's spring break training trip, and working with the team captains in creating regatta rosters and practice plans.

Job Requirements
*Strong communication skills, including working with the public, parents, club members, and staff.
*Skilled in leadership, performance evaluation and supervisory methods. Prior experience in a
managerial or leadership position preferred.
*Skilled in organization, time management, and administrative tasks.
*Skilled in computer use, and database management/design and web design preferred.
*Ability to instruct a wide variety of students at differing skills levels, including those who are
*Experience working with contemporary in-classroom and on-the-water instructional methods,
including curricula and content and use of instructional aids, such as audio-visual
*2-3 years instructing sailing on small boats in a competitive discipline.

*Significant competitive sailing experience in dinghies (college sailing experience preferred)
*Knowledge of college sailing boat- handling skills and tactics and ability to effectively teach

We are the Sailing Club of Hoofers- the University of Wisconsin's outdoor adventure club.

Mission Statement: The purpose of the Sailing Club shall be to promote sailing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison by providing the organization, equipment, instruction, and financing necessary to encourage recreational and competitive sailing.

We offer more than 120 different boats and sailboards for our members. These are spread between 8 different fleets and comprised of 15 different types of crafts. As a member you'll receive unlimited instruction (no prior sailing knowledge or ability is required) and once you have your rating on a particular boat you'll have unlimited access to go sailing during regular club hours.

We have summer youth programs for those not yet old enough to be regular members.

In addition to sailing, we also hold regular socials, parties and special events.

Any currently-enrolled UW-Madison student, Wisconsin Union member, faculty/staff member or guest student may join the Hoofer Sailing Club.
