Job Description
The North East River Yacht Club is looking for experienced Race Coaches (Opti, 420 and Lasers) for the SUMMER 2019. Located on the Chesapeake Bay in North East, MD. Our established and respected program provides opportunities to teach beginner through advanced racing sailors aged 7 -18 years of age. Our team of 20-30 sailors are well respected, enthusiastic and strong competitors. The team practices at our facility, travels to regattas and competes regionally on the Chesapeake Bay throughout the summer in CBYRA Opti Green and RWB, Club 420 and Laser fleets. Applicants should have proven strengths in leadership, racing and coaching, particularly Optimist and Club 420 with knowledge of Lasers a plus. We are looking for experienced, strong and versatile team leads capable of managing the team with the support of a team coordinator. Applicants must be motivated, hard-working, reliable, enthusiastic, diligent, energetic, able to work well with others. They should have proven team management and communication skills. They should be adaptable and knowledgeble in their craft and have the skills to create and execute effective and fun lesson plans, maintain safe practices and above all, have a genuine passion for sailing, racing and teaching kids.
Our race coaches are charged with significant responsibility including:
- Lesson planning, training and practice
- Safety management
- Team management
- Maintaining positve parent interaction
- Regatta preparation and support
- Assisting with coordination of practices, regatta scheduling and travel

Job Requirements
Applicants must show strong leadership, demonstrated experience, and a high level
of competence in coaching this competitive group of sailors. Significant regatta experience at the local, regional, collegiate level or beyond is a must. Qualifications Required:
- US Sailing Level I Certification (Levels 2 and 3 preferred) or international equivalent by the start of the season
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Maryland (NASBLA) Safe Boating certification or approved equivalent
- Clear background check
The term of employment will span approximately nine weeks from mid June to mid August, which includes an orientation week. Weekly requirements are typically Monday through Thursday from 8:30am - 4:30pm, except when traveling to regional regattas. Overtime and travel expenses will be compensated. A drivers license and also towing experience would advantageous but not a requirement. Housing provided for non local applicants. Assistance with visa application fees if applicant is a non-national.
Remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
