Job Description
Get onboard with the best new crew in NYC! North Cove Sailing is a sailing school, club and community center in the heart of NYC at Brookfield Place. We are looking for skilled and qualified keelboat sailing instructors to join our team of sailors!

Position Summary: Sailing Instructors are core members of NCS staff and experience as they serve as skippers and coaches onboard our sailing vessels. Instructors are responsible for client safety and enjoyment at all times while visiting NCS, both on and off the water.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
-Teach a variety of sailing courses, including Learn to Sail, Racing, Youth programming, and corporate racing events both in the classroom and on the water
-Maintain clean, safe and tidy boats and dock space
-Ability to safely single-hand a sailboat
-Create a fun and safe environment for clients while underway, coaching as needed
-Pursue additional teaching and USCG license credentials as needed
-Perform occasional fleet maintenance alongside the Fleet Manager

Scheduling & Compensation:
Peak times for instructors are weekends (Saturday & Sunday 9 AM – 5 PM) as well as Wednesday & Thursday weeknights (5 PM- 9 PM). Those wishing to work with our kids programming can expect to work Monday-Friday (9 AM – 4 PM) from June-August. Instructors may also be scheduled for occasional midday corporate sailing events during the week, subject to availability. Compensation will be based upon relevant experience and credentials. Base salary for USBKI is $18/hour and NCS is willing to assist staff in acquiring further credentials.

Job Requirements
Must have US Basic Keelboat and OUPV 6 PAC or Limited OUPV for NY Harbor. All instructors should have a minimum of 3 months (90 days) of sailing experience in NY Harbor or 1 year of sailing experience on keelboats.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and knowledge of sail racing, consumer hospitality, marine operations and exposure to vessel operation is preferred.

Located in the iconic North Cove Marina at the foot of the Freedom Tower, our sailing center provides the best access and value for sailing in NY Harbor. We are a US Sailing affiliated school, offering learn to sail and racing courses, as well as lessons, clinics, seminars and advanced sailing courses.

This sailing center is also a club, providing New Yorkers with unlimited sailing from May-October. Our club races weekly on Wednesday and Sunday nights, and also hosts cruising excursions every month. Membership is open to graduates of our sailing courses and anyone else who has sailing experience.

North Cove Sailing is committed to getting as many New Yorkers out on the water as possible. We offer free sailing every weekend from 9 AM - 10 AM in addition to a variety of community events -- all open to the public. We also run special group and team building events to help foster better communication and cooperation between teams while having fun on the water in NYC!
