Job Description
Responsible, authoritative, and experienced Sailing Instructor needed to supervise race team coaches, and Sr. and Jr. Sailing Instructors on the water. The on-the-water director will be responsible for setting a positive, fun, safe, and learning oriented tone on the water. To help achieve that objective, the director will:
- Work closely with MSA Director to ensure the overall success of the MSA program, its coaches and instructors, and sailors
- Be the on-the-water leader for MSA
- Lead instructors and coaches on developing and using season long, session long, and individual day lesson plans
- Provide a point of escalation for resolving on-the-water issues as they arise
- Be highly visible and available to parents, instructors/coaches, and sailors throughout each day including during pick-up and drop off
- Lead and work with instructors and coaches to develop and communicate end-of-session feedback sheets for parents
- Lead and work with instructors and coaches to enforce on-the water safety policies
- Embody and continuously demonstrate the core values and behaviors MSA defines in its code of conduct (under development)
- Lead and work with instructors and coaches to ensure quality programs for sailors on bad weather/no wind days
- Provide weekly direct feedback loop to MSA Board as well as raise any potential issues to resolve or opportunities to take advantage of on a timely and ad-hoc basis to the Program Director and MSA Board throughout the season
- Help in a direct and hands on way with any class or team that needs additional help, instruction, or coaching - this could involve filling in for absent/sick instructors/coaches
- Be on-the-water for both morning and afternoon sessions on a daily basis
- Take and distribute (instagram & Facebook) photographs of sailors in action on a regular basis
- Work with MSA Board and Program Director on developing adventures sailing curriculum and developing helmet policy

The On-the-water Director will report to the MSA Director, and will also meet regularly with various MSA board members. All behavioral, teaching, social, or safety issues will be brought to the attention of the MSA Program Director by the On-the-water Director for review, advice, or escalation.
