The Race Instructor is responsible for the design, coordination and teaching of the racing portion of the BPYC Junior Sailing Program. This portion of the program includes racing classes in Prams, Optimists, and 420’s. They will organize and execute inter-club regattas, travel to local MERCS and US sailing race events. The Race Instructor also assists in teaching other classes as necessary. He/she will also perform boat maintenance as needed.
The Race Instructor reports to the Junior Program Director for program design and operations and coordinates with the Club Manager for Yacht Club operational issues and to insure the smooth functioning of the Club. The Racing Instructor supervises any Junior Instructors working with his/her classes.

A candidate must have a thorough knowledge of small boat sailing/racing skills, especially seamanship and sportsmanship. He or she must be a minimum of 18 years old, with experience and interest in working with children in a safe and caring environment to develop a lifelong interest in sailing. An applicant must be a self-starter as this is a flexible program and instructor input is absolutely essential. An applicant must have a love of sailing, an upbeat energy, be very organized/have the ability to plan lessons, and enjoy working in a team environment.
US Sailing Certification (Level 1), at least 2 years teaching experience, and current CPR & First Aid Certificates are required.
