Job Description
Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (www.kbia.net) is a 100+ year old summer, community-based, not for profit organization that offers a variety of recreational and enrichment programs. Our signature program is sailing. Our program runs eight weeks, starting June 25th and ends on August 17th.

Our spectacular facility is located on a tidal cove in Kennebunk Beach, Maine. Sailing and waterfront classes are taught in the cove and more advanced classes are taught on the ocean. KBIA’s fleet is comprised of Optimists, Lasers, and 420s. Support vessels include four outboard Boston Whalers and a Rib Craft.

Other waterfront classes at KBIA include: motor boating, kayaking, rowing, fishing and marine biology excursions.

The position calls for a versatile team player who can teach at all levels, but especially with our racing classes. We offer flexibility, a competitive salary, the chance to live in a classic New England beach community that is within 90 minutes of Boston and 35 minutes to Portland. The ideal candidate

• is an experienced sailing instructor
• is a former or present competitive sailor
• has or is willing to obtain a Level I US Sailing Certification

Having a USCG launch or Captain’s license is a plus and ideally the candidate is able to work prior to the start of classes getting the boats into the water and after the close of classes getting the boats stored for the winter.

The Racing Coach reports to the Waterfront Director and is supported by Counselors and Counselors in Training (CIT). The Racing Coach is responsible for the instruction, supervision and management of some combination of KBIA’s Race Team 1, Race Team 2 and the Opti Race Team and will be a significant leader in our sailing program. Both Race Team 1 and Opti Race Team classes send representatives to local weekly MIRC races and the coach will accompany them. Race Team 2 travels to larger, often multi day, regattas.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and housing is available. For more information about KBIA please visit www.kbia.net.

Please send cover letter, resume, list of references, and compensation expectations to employment@kbia.net. No phone calls, please. Applicants are encouraged to apply before January 1st.
