JOB REQUIREMENTS for both Experienced and Apprentice:
Sailing Experience is key to this business
Although we will train each new staff member to perform the critical steps of the sailmaking process, a person handy with tools, especially knowledge of sewing machines is valued. Physically, a sailmaker must be capable of crawling on their knees for an extended time frame, as well as lift 60 lbs. Attention to detail is key, as each sailmaker has a great deal of autonomy following a detail sheet set forth from the design team with measurements in decimal feet or metric. Basic understanding of sailing will allow a sailmaker to better envision the production process and make sense of the technical parts. You must be able to complete jobs in an efficient and productive manner to a high standard of quality.
Although racing sailors can make great sailmakers, a steady attendance is vital to the functioning of a sail loft, so planning to take time off for regattas during our busiest months makes a candidate less compatible with our goals.
The Doyle Sails North America team can often be seen racing on the fastest race boats in town with senior members in demand globally, competing on yachts at Grand Prix level in regattas around the world.
If you’re ambitious and inspirational, want to learn from a team who are the best in their field and are ready to work hard for a career with real possibilities for advancement, get in touch today.
We offer competitive salary, paid time off and medical and dental benefits.
