Job Description
Manhasset Bay Yacht Club of Port Washington, NY is seeking dedicated, motivated and hard-working Sailing Instructors and Coaches for our Summer 2020 Junior Sailing Program.


Manhasset Bay Yacht Club, established in 1891, has a history of more than 120 years as a leader in the yachting world. We have an impressive fleet of sailboats, including Optimists, Hobie Cats, RS Fevas, Open Skiffs, 420s, and Lasers. In addition, we have a well-maintained fleet of 8 Ideal 18s as well as two large club-owned keelboats: a J105 and a Beneteau 281. These vessels are available for junior sailing use, and the J105 is used for our junior big boat racing program. We have a fleet of 10 Boston Whaler coach boats with plans to expand for the 2020 season.


Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. You will have the opportunity to supplement your income by conducting private lessons through the club. Lunch and dinner at Manhasset Bay yacht club is provided.


Responsibilities:
• Work as a team with 8-10 other sailing instructors
• Report directly to the Head Instructor, and work closely with the Sailing Director, waterfront team, Waterfront Manager, and General Manager.
• Construct creative lesson plans on a daily basis for your class
• Prepare lessons and on-land activities when sailing is not possible
• Ensure that Junior Sailors are safe, entertained, and learning both on and off the water
• Evaluate Junior Sailors progress on a weekly basis
• Facilitate regatta logistics and transportation with the Head Instructor, Sailing Director and Waterfront Team
• Coach the Junior Race Team in Optis, RS Fevas, Open Skiffs, Lasers, and 420s
Job Requirements

• US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Level 1 or higher
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications
• Safesport certification
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience with sailing dinghies such as Optis, RS Fevas, Open Skiffs, Lasers, and 420s.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills
• A passion for sailing education and working with kids
• Experience with the racing rules and racing on variety of sailboats
• Keelboat sailing experience is a plus
• Availability from late June to late August
• Available to work Mon - Fri, generally between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm
• First-year instructors intending to complete US Sailing Level 1 and Safe Powerboat Handling certification prior to June 2020 will be considered.
