Sarasota Youth Sailing is a 501c3 Year Round Sailing Program in the heart of beautiful
Sarasota Bay!

SYS Mission Statement: Our mission is to encourage youth sailors to experience the joy of sailing in a safe and fun environment. We strive to impart a love of sailing as a life sport, while providing the fundamental skills necessary for participants to advance in the sport as far as their desire, skill and hard work may take them. We promote ethical behavior among our sailors and teach life-long lessons, which build character, foster teamwork, develop self-reliance and instill respect for the marine environment.

Position: Part-time, hourly exempt Sarasota Youth Sailing Instructors
(compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Race Team Fleets: Green Fleet, RWB, Laser, Open Bics, C420’s, Multihull,
Description: Sarasota Youth Sailing is currently undergoing a period of growth, and desires to expand upon its current instructional staff. The instructor positions are currently being advertised as part-time hourly exempt, with the potential of one being a Head Coach position, and one being a Waterfront Director position. Depending on the candidate, one of the lead positions could be full time. Full Job Description:
Planning of, and coaching, practices and regattas;
Developing competition specific sailing skills 
in a professional, safe, and responsible manner;
General care and respect for the fleet of sailboats, powerboats, and facilities;
Knowledge of fundamental tactics and strategies of youth sailing;
Knowledgeable of current Racing Rules of Sailing;
Encourage the highest levels of sportsmanship and behavior;
Follow the course curriculum as designed;
Develop and implement daily practice plans for the respective classes
Job Requirements
General Requirements:
Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team, and be supportive of the efforts of fellow instructors;
Be an appropriate role model for the team members, and SYS community;
Instructors are expected to be open and honest in their communication with students, parents, instructors, and staff alike.
Candidate must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license;
Candidate must have the ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays;
Ability to travel (in and out of state)
Exceptional coaching skills
Team Racing knowledge
Motor/Coach Boat operation
Must be able to drive small coach boats and sail small boats at a high level
2 years coaching, preferred
US Sailing Level 1 or 2
Red Cross CPR/First Aid

Important Note:
It is expected that Instructors will make full and constructive use of the time scheduled for classes, and show creativity and excitement with their classes to the best of their ability;
Instructors are responsible for all land side and on-the-water aspects of the conduct of their classes. This includes assisting students with the preparation and launching of their sailboats, reviewing and ensuring that rigging is done correctly and that the boat(s) are in safe, working condition;
Instructors are responsible for ensuring that the safety boat(s) they will be using for the class have the necessary and required safety and teaching equipment, before going out on the water;
At the end of the day, Instructors are responsible for making sure that all boats, both safety, and sail, are appropriately secured and put away, and that any extraneous equipment or materials (including trash) have been removed;
Instructors are responsible for reporting accidents/illness, both severe and minor, to the Executive Director;
Instructors are responsible for reporting any problems with the condition of any boat (safety or sail) used in the program
