Olympia Yacht Club
201 Simmons St NW Olympia
Olympia Yacht Club, WA 98501
About the Program:
The OYC has a year round Youth Sailing Director/Head Coach, and in the last 3 years has built an extensive year-round youth sailing program. We operate an 11 week Learn to Sail Program with over 425 participants; 10+ instructors; adult sailing; and we’re growing! Our fleet consists of 6 420s, 6 FJs, 6 Lasers, 13 optis, 1 J24, and 4 Coach boats. In summer we participate in the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit (NWYRC). With Opti, Laser, Double-Handed, and Spinnaker fleets. The NWYRC is the main set of regattas the Summer Race Team attends. We compete in the regions Sears, Bemis, and Smythe qualifiers, and have sailors who have attended/are gearing up for Leiter and Idle-Lewis. Traveling to regattas takes the Race Team all the way to the San Juan Islands, and Bellingham and down to Portland, OR and the Gorge. We have 2 brand-new 3-boat trailers (FJ/420 compatible) and a Laser/Opti trailer. Lastly, there is a vibrant keel boat racing and dinghy racing scene in Olympia.
Our Goal for Summer 2018:
We are rapidly growing/expanding program, and have a core group of competitive sailors who have been training in our c420s and lasers in the summer and are competitive high school sailors in the Fall/Spring (we average 50+ High School/Middle School sailors year round). We want to empower a Race Coach who is going to take them to the next level with their spin/trap work, as well as push our core Laser sailors to reach their competitive goals.
We will provide housing for the 420 & Laser Race Coach, OR provide an equivalent housing stipend (your choice)
