The Yachting Director will manage all aspects of club yachting with the exception of the Junior Sailing Program and Race Committee operations. They will report to the Club’s General Manager and will be responsible to the chairperson of the Sailing Committee.
The Yachting Director role is a full time, seasonal position from approximately Memorial Day through Labor Day, with some (limited) involvement with the Sailing Committee during the shoulder season/off-season to include program planning for the following summer season. We are open to being flexible with scheduling at the start and close of the summer sailing season.
The Yachting Director will be responsible for yachting initiatives at the club including, but not limited to promoting and running existing and new programs including:
*Sailing team and match race practices
*Adult learn to sail programming
*Family sailing programming
*Individual adult sailing lessons
*On water coaching and post-race debriefing skippers and crew on our Club run sailing races, including PHRF Wednesday night races and preparation for longer distance ocean race
*Work with existing sailors and power boaters to expand courses and learnings on safety at sea programs and general boat operations
*Work with volunteers to promote weekend “mini” cruises for boat owners
*Coordinate with Race Committee on annual scheduling and planning/promoting club sponsored yachting regattas and events
*Assist the club in enhancing the membership pipeline of sailors
*Coordinate with the Sailing committee to manage the maintenance of the Club Charter Fleet of Sonars and J22, including the check out of members to qualify them to use those boats
A successful candidate will have experience running waterfront and sailing operations, as well as teaching sailing and boating skills at the highest levels. They will demonstrate good interpersonal skills and an ability to coordinate and promote ongoing and new programs that encourage BYC members to sail, improve their sailing and general boating skills, and to bring new sailors into the region. We expect the candidate to have at least US Sailing Level 1 or 2 certification; US Sailing Judge and/or Umpire certifications are a plus but not required.
This position, at times, requires extensive physical activity in all weather conditions. It regularly requires working weekends and extended hours.
