The Orleans Yacht Club, Inc. (OYC) currently seeks candidates for a 420 Race Coach. This is a seasonal position to provide leadership and supervision for our Junior Sailing Program (JSP) 420 Racing Team. We focus race Team classes on perfecting the processes involved in sailboat racing based on U.S. Sailing Rules and Regulations. Emphasis is on having fun in a competitive atmosphere while building racing skills and preparing for regattas. This highly organized individual will report to the Camp Director. The Race Coach will work closely with other JSP Senior Instructors, interact with parents, OYC members, club leadership, the OYC Club Administrator, and the JSP Sailing Program Camp Director when and as needed.
The OYC is located on Town Cove in Orleans, MA, and has been teaching youth sailing since 1947. The JSP has approximately 200 students and operates an eight-week summer camp. It comprises five levels of sailing (Beginner, Intermediate, Skipper, Advanced, and Race Team) and uses Opti’s, Capri’s, Precision15’s & 420’s.
The OYC’s Junior Sailing Program is a recreational day camp and complies with regulations of the MA Department of Public Health and is licensed by the Orleans Board of Health.
Position Requirements Overview:
   1. must be 21 years of age and older.
   2. current U.S. Sailing Level 2certification or equivalent experience.
   3. Must have a minimum of 2 years’ previous experience as a Race coach. With extensive         race experience, one (1) year will be considered.
      a. Must have significant 420 racing experience plus experience as a Senior Instructor.   
   4. Must be available from mid-June through the third week of August (ten weeks total).
      a. Available for set-up week, June 20 and for awards night on August 20.
      b. Attend mandatory staff orientation, Saturday June 25, 9:00a.m. to noon and 1:00p.m.            to 4:00p.m.
      c. Class schedule: June 27- August 19: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.            and Thursday afternoon races 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
   5. experience supervising & teaching children from fourteen to eighteen.
   6. organize participation in SMSA and other area Regattas.
   7. must have the ability to work well as part of a team & teach teamwork & sportsmanship.    8. must have the ability to manage instruction of advanced sailors on and off the water.
   9. assist with management of JSP Senior and Junior Instructors (ages 16-25) as needed.    10. demonstrate sound judgment on safety, equipment, weather & sailing conditions.
   11. must be compliant with OYC, U.S. Sailing & Recreational Camp standards.
   12. conduct & oversee Thursday afternoon inter-club multiclass racing.
   13. current ARC lifeguard certification preferred.
   14. current First Aid, CPR/AED certifications.
   15. must have a current Powerboat safety certification or equivalent experience.
   16. sailing certifications, child education, or related certifications are a plus.
   17. must have positive CORI/SORI and reference check results.
   18. salaried position commensurate with experience.
