Job Description

Sail Cape Cod  (SCC) is seeking a responsible, reliable sailor to teach in our adult sailing course. The adult sailing instructor will teach students aged 18+ primarily on J/22's and our Fareast 18 sailboat located in Lewis Bay, Hyannis, MA. Lessons are offered from 3-6 on weekdays, starting June 27th through August 26th. Additional hours are also available in our adaptive and youth sailing programs. Our collegial and supportive instructor staff ranges in age from18 to 66, and welcomes everyone with a passion for teaching sailing.

           Instructors must be enthusiastic and able to engage students in the fundamentals of sailing as well as the importance of the natural environment, the community in which we sail, and basic leadership & team skills inherent in the sport of sailing. 



1. Hold a current US Sailing level 1 small boat instructor certification (or equivalent) OR be willing to take the course prior to, or during the season.

2. Current first aid and CPR certification.

3. Must have a passion for sailing, and the community.

4. Must have a positive, enthusiastic and flexible attitude.

5. Must possess strong problem solving skills and an ability to adapt to changing program needs depending on weather, number of students, number of boats, etc.

Job Requirements

1. The sailing instructor must be able to teach safety, boat handling and sailing theory to adults on J/22’s. Classes range from beginner to intermediate.

2. He/she must be able to develop and follow lesson plans that include land-based and on-the-water drills and inclement weather activities.

3. He/she must have empathy for the students and be able to adapt to their individual needs.

4. Other duties may include care and maintenance of boats, and light launch duty on our rigid inflatables.

5. The instructor must have knowledge and respect of the rules and regulations of the center and of Hyannis harbor and be able to enforce them. He/she must be safety oriented, and operate within the organizations risk management plan.
