Job Description

Overview

The Head Coach oversees the Highschool Sailing Team. They will work closely with the Director to ensure a well run program. The Head Coach will organize and carry out the main operations of the Sailing Team, from running practices, to scheduling regattas and communicating with parents. This involves overseeing proper program function, risk management, boat maintenance, and managing other coaches. We seek a fun, talented and responsible coach who enjoys working with youth and is interested in involvement with a growing organization.


Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure the proper function of the High School Sailing Team.


  • Be competent to coach high school level racing. Primary boats used are FJs.

  • Prepare curriculum, schedule equipment and boats for student use.

  • Safely and effectively run a motorized safety boat for class as needed.

  • Supervise, train or recruit assistant or volunteer coaches.

  • Organize travel and accommodation logistics for team regattas.

  • Ensure that all AWA boats and gear are in good working order and well maintained.

  • Closely monitor program functions for compliance with AWA policies and procedures.

  • Represent the AWA well with a professional appearance and demeanor.



Work Hours/ Benefits

  • Work hours may vary depending on program density but in a typical week you may expect 25 - 40 hrs/week.


  • Schedule will consist of multiple practice days a week plus weekend regattas.


  • Compensation starts at $17-$20 per hour. Pay increases come with increases in duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications

The Head Coach must have the following qualifications


  • US Sailing Level 1 certification

  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification

  • WA State Boaters License

  • Previous coaching experience in sailing racing

  • Small powerboat handling experience

  • Basic administrative experience; emailing, scheduling, presentations

  • Effective communicator across multiple stakeholder groups

  • Ability to secure trailer contents and loads, trailer boats on the road and in small spaces and or obtain training prior to job start.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, have the stamina to occasionally stand and walk for a minimum of four hours, and be able to move your body in small spaces for extended periods of time.
