Assistant Boatswain/Fleet Captain

Nantucket Yacht Club seeks a professional maintenance person with experience rigging and repairing dinghies and small keelboats/sport boats. This candidate will work with a marine restoration professional to learn the more sophisticated methods for repairing and maintaining our fleet. 

Primary Objectives include:

• Spring Preparation and Commissioning of Sailboats, Powerboats, and Trailers
• Ongoing maintenance and optimization protocol for multiple fleets during the summer.
  • Optis, 420s, RS Quests
  • ILCAs, Melges 15s 
  • Rhodes 19s, J70s
  • Coachboat Fleet
  • Race Committee Boat
• Rigging, tuning, fixing and replacing small issues with running rigging, sail repair, etc.
• September/October decommissioning of fleet, preparation for winter, and advance preparation for the following season.

Competitive Wage based on Qualification. Housing and meals are provided for a very minimal cost. 

1. Physically demanding role which requires able bodied individual.
2. Basic Understanding of Sailboats, Rigging, and Powerboat Operation. More extensive knowledge in these areas is a bonus, but may not be necessary if the candidate has the proper approach and mindset.
3. Ability to Operate a Powerboat

The Right Candidate will have the following attributes:

• Self-directed individual able to manage multiple tasks at once.
• Ability to follow seasonal schedule with competing priorities. 
• Consistent Follow-Through on annual schedule of preventative maintenance.
• Thorough, complete focus on work. 
• Passion for hard work and consistent follow-through.
