The United States Coast Guard Academy is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Offshore Sailing Coach. The U. S. Coast Guard Academy is situated on more than 100 acres of rolling hills on the west bank of the Thames River in historic New London, Connecticut.
This is a temporary full-time position (non-federal) with the start date of approximately 15 August 2021 for one year with the possibility of follow on employment. Sailing is a two season varsity sport (fall/spring) at CGA during the Academic year in addition to the Summer Ocean Racing Program (May/Jun).
Responsibilities include but not limited to coaching, recruiting, organizing both practice and competition, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, team management, administration and oversee the maintenance and readiness of our fleet of 10 J-70's, 10 Colgate 26’s, 2 Melges 32's and J-44. Coach will assist in the planning and execution of our Ocean Racing Program onboard our J-44 which includes the Annapolis-Newport Race, NYYC Annual and Block Island Race Week.
We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual with sailing and teaching/coaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent. Successful experience racing one-designs, PHRF and IRC level racing and offshore sailing are preferred qualifications. The individual should be able to use proven and innovative coaching methods to help us achieve our ultimate goal of a high participation, safe and result oriented varsity sailing program.
