DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: Cal Maritime takes great pride in providing the best training and education to prepare cadets for careers in the global maritime profession. The Keelhaulers' athletics program plays a key role in the “leadership laboratory” showcasing Tomorrow's Leaders Today. The Athletic Department at CSU Maritime Academy is currently accepting applications for a coaching position for the 2023-2024 academic year, with the possibility of annual reappointment dependent on performance and budget considerations.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY MARITIME ACADEMY (Cal Maritime): Located on a compact but scenic waterfront campus in Vallejo, California (30 miles northeast of San Francisco), California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) is a unique and specialized campus of the 23-campus system. Assist in all aspects of an intercollegiate sailing program competing as a member of the Pacific Coast College Sailing Conference (PCCSC), Intercollegiate Sailing Conference (ICSA) and non-collegiate regattas.

Responsibilities include inside recruiting, all phases of preparation for competition, including conducting dinghy practices, program development, and establishment of a strong academic support environment.

Manage and direct practices and supervise dinghy team travel to regattas.

Supervise occasional offshore practice sessions, facilitate maintenance, and occasionally supervise team travel to dingy regattas.

Occasionally assist with beginner sailing PE courses on board J22s on our waterfront campus.

Work closely with the Head Sailing Coach and undergrad team Captains.


Bachelor's Degree

• Coaching experience

Demonstrated racing experience

US Sailing certification

Ability to work collegially and collaboratively as a member of the faculty


Collegiate coaching experience

Offshore Distance racing experience

• USCG Masters license with sailing endorsement


• Hiring salary is anticipated at $5,168.00 per month.

• CSU Hiring range is:$ 5,168.00- $ 6,946.00 per month commensurate with education and experience

• Typical classroom and office environments are in a two-story building with elevator access.
