Bay Head Yacht Club Seeks 420 Coach/Director

 
Position: Bay Head Yacht Club is looking for an experienced coach who demonstrates knowledge and leadership to teach and advance a group of 420 sailors. The 420 coach/director will design and implement the 420 curriculum. An ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative, has a passion for coaching sailing, works well with junior sailors, and has a proven track record of success. The 420 sailors will travel to regional and national level events.
 

Bay Head Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program Overview: The goal of the Bay Head Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program is to foster a lifelong love of sailing while teaching juniors the fundamentals of racing. We are focused on providing quality instruction and an opportunity for children to gain exposure to sailing in a safe and fun environment. The Club provides an eight week summer sailing program for more than 120 juniors ages 6-16. The Bay Head junior sailing fleet consists of Optis, Fevas, 420s and Lasers.


 
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
● Minimum 2 years working as a full-time sailing instructor in a comprehensive youth
sailing program with experience in coaching race teams
● Current US Sailing Instructor Level, which includes current CPR/First Aid, Safe Boating,
SafeSport, and Coaching Fundamentals certifications
● Thorough knowledge of small boat sailing, seamanship and small powerboat handling
● Strong race management skills and extensive knowledge of racing tactics and the ability
to teach and enforce rules while maintaining sportsmanship
● Passion for the sport of sailing and enthusiasm for working with kids
● Attention to detail, organized, responsible with strong leadership and interpersonal skills
● Ability to adapt coaching based on the needs and ability of the program participants

Time Commitment:
● Full Season - Full time, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
● Regatta attendance according to local racing schedule
● Candidates will be considered only if available from June 23 through August 20, 2023


Housing may be provided for the right candidate.
Compensation based on experience.
