Duties (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE):
- Instill the team mantra in all our team members and try to find a way to implement it each day.
- Lead daily team meetings, outlining the goals for the day and expectations for each team member.
- Act as the primary point of contact for guests who need to speak with management regarding beach operations.
- Set the weekly schedule for the beach, using hotel occupancy, weather forecasts and Fareharbor bookings to schedule according to our needs as accurately as possible.
- Make recommendations to the Powerboat Operations Manager who is working hard on the beach and deserves time training as a crew member.
- Produce bi-weekly beach operations reports.
- Be involved in the initial recruitment stage of hiring new Beach Staff.
- Onboard new team members and put them through the 2-week training course to cover all aspects of the position.
- Ensure each team member is confident in using each of our rescue boat engines and explain the dangers of engines when they are in gear.
- Working hard to keep a high morale around the beach hut and proactively making changes if things start to change.
- Regularly communicate with team members via our Slack and Whatsapp channels to provide updates, schedules, and any pertinent information regarding sailing activities, weather, lunch schedules etc.
- Provide overview of maintenance records and maintenance needs, provide recommendations for capital purchases needed annually to be approved by their superior.
- Plan and organize training sessions for team members on kayaks, paddleboards, Hobie cats and the rescue boats.
- Help facilitate turnover for Lady Grace in the winter months when they are tight on time between trips
Fleet Maintenance:
- With the assistance of the Head Sailing Instructor, is responsible for overseeing the preparation, use and maintenance of the hobie fleet and our other equipment including kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel equipment along with any new equipment purchased for the department.
- Ensure the fleet is well-maintained and in optimal cruising, sailing and racing condition. Assist in commissioning and decommissioning the club’s fleet.
- Assist in storm preparation.
“Learn to Sail” Giveback Program:
- Along with our partners, the Ed Gartland Youth Centre, we offer youth between the ages of 8 and 15 to join us in learning the basics of sailing for 2 hours, once a week, over an 8-week program.
- Develop and implement a sailing curriculum catering to all skill levels including a process for interested sailors to gain certification on more advanced boats at one of the sailing clubs.
- Design and maintain credentials to certify sailors at the end of each successful program.
- Create a mentoring program to encourage experienced sailors provide opportunities for less experienced sailors while on the water.
“Stars of the Future” Internship Program:
- Coordinate our annual “Stars of the Future” Summer Internship Program. This includes, but is not limited to, planning, training, scheduling staff and overseeing the daily running of the program.
- Assessing the interns over the course period to identify interested and suitable recruits for the beach team in the future.
- Promote the program across the island by posting flyers in supermarkets and shops, visiting local high schools, other sports clubs etc.
- Organize certificates and letters of completion for successful candidates at the end of each program.
RED Ritz Kids Sailing Program:
- Organise daily and weekly sailing camps at times the hotel has high family occupancy such as Festive, Spring Break, Summer Vacation etc.
- Plan different adventure sailaways and themed days to add extra excitement for the sailors.
- Promote the program by speaking with the Ritz Kidz employees, Front Desk, Concierges and letting them know to mention it to any families who are arriving.
- Send Beach Attendants around the kids’ pool to speak with families and make them aware of our programs.
Weekly Racing in Grace Bay:
- In conjunction with the Provo Sailing Club and other operators in the Grace Bay area, assist with the running of racing for 1-2 hours, once a week.
- Develop and train our Sailing Instructors on the beach to lay a triangle course no matter the wind direction. Learning about the tide and other factors which affect how it is laid.
- Offer a Race Officer course for interested volunteers on island to help with keeping results each week, allowing more racers the opportunity to compete on a weekly basis.
- Encourage as many sailors as possible (novice to experienced) to join in the fun of racing on a weekly basis. Give tips to those who need it on the racecourse.
Outer Island Sailing Programs and Regattas:
- Coordinate with the organisers of events and regattas such as the South Caicos Regatta, Valentine’s Day Cup in Middle Caicos to ensure RED Hospitality sponsor where they can and have a presence at these events to allow us to immerse ourselves and our guests in the heritage of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
- Get involved in the organizing and execution of running the events. For example, building model boats with the Youth Center group for them to participate in the Valentine’s Day Cup.
- Help to promote and bring more awareness to these events.
