Job Description
Nashville Sail is seeking an experienced Camp Director for our 2020 season. The Camp Director will provide overall supervision, leadership and management for all aspects of Sail Camp operations including program, business, camper and staff supervision, and customer service. Under the director of the CEO, the Camp Director ensures the safe delivery of sailing instruction, high quality customer service and excellent organizational management of daily camp operations for up to 60 campers ages 7-17 and a staff team of 15 instructors and counselors. Leadership Academy’s Nashville Sail Camp runs a 10 week season, May 26-August 7 including a full week of staff training. Our sailing fleet includes a NEW fleet of RS Zest and Fevas as well as Opti, Laser, Sunfish and Vanguard 15s.

At Leadership Academy, we believe that outdoor play and exploration increases creativity, confidence and social intelligence. We operate summer camps that get people outside to play, connect them to nature, teach recreation skills and develop a love and affinity for the outdoors.

Sail Camp Director Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage and oversee the daily operation of Sail Camp, including program, business, camper and staff supervision, and customer service.

  • Be the lead instructor for Nashville Sail Camp, design and develop core sailing curriculum based on US Sailing, campers groups and skill progression that teaches children to sail, while fostering development of confidence, creativity and emotional intelligence. Ensure delivery in a safe and quality manner.

  • Develop and lead training for all staff and volunteers. Effectively direct & supervise camp staff including providing coaching and performance evaluations

  • Develop and implement crisis and risk management procedures. Be the lead staff member in emergency situations. Record and report all injuries to CEO.

  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with program participants, family members, staff and yacht club partners. Ensure high quality customer service for parents and campers

  • Manage the budget for the camp operations, purchase of supplies as necessary.

  • Maintain all boating equipment and report any damage or needed repairs to CEO

  • Manage daily check in and check out

  • Complete end of camp paperwork including updating the staff manual

Wages: Nashville Sail Camp Director: Seasonal, Hourly Rate $12.50 plus time and half for Overtime, expected weekly hours of 48-52.

Job Requirements
Qualifications & Prerequisite Skills: (Prior to first day of camp)

1-2 years of experience teaching sailing

At least two seasons of camp experience, supervisory level preferred.

Knowledge of safe boating practices and considerable sailing and motor boating experience

Current US Sailing Level 1 (or higher) Small craft Instructor certification (& must be at least 21)

Current US Sailing membership

Boater’s Education Card through TWRA, or local state equivalent

Current CPR/First-Aid certification

Must be proficient in computer skills and related word processing, data management, and Internet computer software including social networking sites.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

This position would require the ability to listen to others, observe others’ actions, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals, and physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions.
