Job Description

St. Georges School based in Middletown, Rhode Island, operates SSV Geronimo and invites applications for the post of Captain.

St. George’s School is seeking candidates for a Captain position that may also include associated administrative responsibilities. U. S. Coast Guard Ocean Master's license with auxiliary sail endorsement is required. The successful applicant will have at least five years’ experience teaching high school or college students in an experiential setting and knowledge of marine science.

The Captain is also responsible for teaching a Marine Science course on board and managing the on-board program, including student academic commitments and excursions ashore.

Part of a two-Captain rotation with approximately 4 months at sea and 3+ months off. The balance of time would ideally be at school or managing a maintenance period, but there is also the possibility of a more limited administrative commitment. The position is a full time Faculty position with a competitive salary and benefits.

The Geronimo program most often sails between New England and The Bahamas & Caribbean on 3-6 week long programs for high school students. A voyage to Europe is planned for 2022.
