Job Description
Treasure Island Sailing Center is a non-profit community sailing center and is seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, and passionate sailing instructors for our 2021 Sailing Summer Camp. Instructors should be able to instruct and be interested in working with youth of varying skill levels and backgrounds.
 
  • Represent Treasure Island Sailing Center with a professional attitude and appearance.

  • Teach introductory to advanced sailing

  • Work as a team player to develop junior sailors and help them achieve their goals

  • Be a positive role model and teach by example: teamwork, positive communication, responsible decision making, and appropriate personal conduct.

  • Teach students in a safe, fun, positive, and professional manner.

  • Launch dinghies, motorboats and other boats as needed

  • Properly use, store, and maintain club equipment, teaching aids, marks, radios and safety boats.

  • Maintain required documentation: Attendance, lesson plans, accident/incident reports, student misbehavior, success stories, progress reports, photos, and broken equipment.

  • Create maintenance tickets and download and print rosters

  • Use basic tools such as screwdrivers and pliers to perform basic maintenance

 
Job Requirements
US Sailing Small Boat Sailing Instructor Level 1 certification, or scheduled to be taken by July 15th 2021. Please inquire about financial support.
CPR and First Aid, and SafeSport Certified
Covid-19 vaccination (if available) TISC coaches qualify as San Francisco educators
Ability to instruct sailing to youth 6 to 18 years olds at varying skill levels
Ability to instruct from a motorboat
Proficient and safe power boating skills
Sailing and Coaching experience with one or more for the following: Optimists, Club FJ’s, Laser, RS Ventures, Bugs, RS Fevas
Proficiency in rescuing sailors in various types of boats
Effective, positive leadership and communication, both on and off the water
Passion for inspiring kids to improve their sailing skills
Positive role model on and off the water
Desire to become a better coach
Commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment
Responsibility, reliability, and timeliness
Knowledge of how to tie basic sailing knots (including a bowline)
Engaging ability to run lessons and debriefs and impart knowledge
Teach juniors how to maintain and care for their equipment
Keelboat experience is a plus but not required
