Job Description

The Chicago Yacht Club Foundation is seeking summer instructors for the community sailing initive at the Monroe Station of Chicago Yacht Club. The right candidate will have extensive personal sailing expierence, a passion for working with Chicago youth with an emphasis on Social Emotional Learning and has an energetic attitude!

The Chicago Yacht Club Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity focused on bringing the joys and benefits of boating to Chicagoland youth, with a primary focus on underrepresented communities. Two years ago, the Foundation minted a new strategic plan, calling for the rapid growth of the organization and a meaningful positive impact on the lives of thousands of Chicagoland youth. To that end, the Foundation aims to engage in four key activities.

  • Introduction of boating to thousands of Chicago youth each year;
  • Induction of interested youth by exposing them to meaningful programming designed to teach them about boating and related skills;
  • Development of our youth who are interested in furthering their boating knowledge; and
  • Inspiration of our youth by exposing them to role models and offering them scholarship opportunities to enhance their lives.
Job Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications:
Level 1 US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Certification or Basic Keelboat Instructor Certification
Safe Sport Certification
CPR/First Aid Certification

Other requirements include but are not limited to:
-Ability to maintain a fun and safe learning environment
-Ability to teach basic principles of sailing to a variety of learning styles
-Ability to teach a variety of ages ranging from 4th grade to High School
-Ability to confidently sail Keelboats (we have J-100s) including solo docking and mooring
