Devon Yacht Club (DYC) is looking for two youth sailing coaches and one adult sailing coach to join our returning team for the summer 2021 sailing season. DYC is located in Amagansett, NY on Gardiners Bay between East Hampton and Montauk. DYC, founded in 1916 has a rich tradition of sailing on long island and we’re looking for the team that will help write the next chapter.
For the youth coaches. Devons youth program is run in Optis, Sunfish, Laser, 420 and multiple keelboats. Coaches will be a part of weekly youth training of 70+ 6-17 year olds Monday to Friday, assist with racing on the weekends, regatta coaching, keel boat crewing/coaching onboard, fleet maintenance, as well as private lesson opportunities. Coaches requiring housing will be provided it on property alongside other coaches. Meals also provided by the club, including off days.
The adult sailing coach will be coaching 3-4 weekdays, performing fleet maintenance/improvement, assisting with racing on the weekends, keel boat crewing/coaching onboard, as well as having private lesson opportunities. Coaches requiring housing will be provided it on property alongside other coaches. Meals also provided by the club, including off days. We are looking for someone with a high knowledge base of keelboat/dinghy racing. Fleet maintenance and improvements will also be a key part of this position. Basic knowledge of rigging, splicing, refinishing and tuning are required.
We have a great time as a team doing our job in order to provide an outstanding experience for the membership. There are few, if no other club that offers the opportunities for getting paid to race with members, well compensated for private lessons, provided housing and food while also providing competitive hourly wage. You will be expected to coach all levels of sailing from introductory to fine tuning our experienced racers. At Devon we are a staff, family and friends. We’re looking for individuals with high level skill sets that are not above teaching beginners to join that family.
