Job Description

Stamford Yacht Club is seeking; Director Big Boat Program and Sailing Instructors for the 2024 Summer season.  Our youngest sailors (7-8 year of age) are taught on Ideal 18s and we have a comprehensive three level Opti program for beginners and intermediate sailors in the morning.  Our afternoon session is geared toward the Laser, racing Optis and Adventure sailing.  We are looking for applicants who have a strong sailing background with racing experience a plus.  We offer a competitive salary with overtime pay and a merit-based bonus, free lunch at our snack bar, cool instructor shirts, and swag.  The position will require a US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 certification, First Aid and CPR certificates, a Safe Boating certificate and Safesport certification.  The ideal candidate is motivated to teach sailing, is patient with children, creative, and has a positive attitude. Dates of employment are mid-June through mid-August. Working hours for instructors are from 8am to 5pm for sailing instructors.

The Director of Big Boat Programs will co-lead our Junior Big Boat program and help develop and teach a developing adult program with the Sailing Director.  Stamford Yacht Club charters a J-105 which is available beginning in Spring and runs through late Fall.  Scheduling can be flexible during the shoulder season.  In Summer, the Juniors will race Tuesday and Friday evenings, and either learn navigation or practice racing on Wednesday nights.  Junior big boat and adult programming could extend into weekdays, and weekends with additional weeknights on offer for adults. This is a great opportunity to earn overtime.
