Job Description

The Larchmont Shore Club is accepting applications for an experienced Junior Sailing Director for the 2022 Season. The LSC Junior Sailing Program has a fleet of Optimists, Fevas, Pixels and 420’s. The program has ~60-70 students ranging in age from 8-16.

Overview

The Junior Sailing Director will work with the General Manager and Board of Directors and will be responsible for the junior sailing program. He/She will be required to supervise all junior sailing program staff throughout the summer and should have strong sailing and teaching experience.

The ideal candidate is organized, professional, works well with both junior sailors and sailing parents, is team oriented, self motivated and adaptable.

The position requires balancing off the water and on water responsibilities and management of daily operations. The position is seasonal (on site end of June - mid-August) with preseason and postseason administrative duties.

 

Job Requirements
Qualifications:

● Must have 2-4 years experience as Sailing Director or Head Sailing Instructor

● Previous experience with staff management

● Capable of General Boat Maintenance

● US Powerboat Safe Handling certification

● Current First Aid/CPR Certification

● Level 2 US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Certification

● Excellent organization and communication skills

● Ability to work efficiently, independently and reliably

● Exhibit a mature and professional demeanor

● Customer focused and detail oriented

● Manage and schedule all Junior Programs

Responsibilities

● Work with Board liaison on registration and help to place sailors based on experience

● Answer programming calls/questions from parents

● Communicate with sailing families throughout the season to ensure quality experiences

● Assess equipment and make recommendations for upgrades/maintenance

● Attends Local Sailing Association Committee Meetings

● Oversees Start-Up and Close-Down Operations

● Hire staff and conduct training sessions

● Conduct sailor/parent meet and greet prior to season beginning

● Ensure a safe working and learning environment

● Conduct fun activities throughout the summer including rainy day plans

● Coordinate with local regattas and Larchmont Yacht Club Race Week events

● Get out on the water to observe and assist staff and sailors
