Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club is seeking a Director of Waterfront Activities to manage our Junior Sailing, Boating and on-water activities program.  This position will join a robust team at Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club and report to the Club’s Manager and the Jr. Sailing Co-Chairs. The ideal candidate will be an experienced sailor and leader/educator of youth activities. This role involves overseeing the Junior Sailing Program and staff, coaching, and ensuring a safe and fun learning environment.  You will work closely with staff, campers, and parents to deliver high-quality sailing and water activities instruction while also managing day-to-day program operations.

 

Job Requirements
  • Program Development and Management: Lead the planning, development, and execution of the youth sailing and waterfront programming.  Incorporate other “on water” activities into the waterfront curriculum (for example, NYC boat safety certification, kayaking, SUP, windsurfing, water skiing, etc.) while maintaining a focus on the youth sailing as a mainstay pillar of the program.  The audience is:  campers within the sports group, novice junior program, junior sailing clinics & development and regatta/race training. 
  • Coaching & Instruction: Promote a positive and encouraging sailing environment that reflects the club’s culture. Provide hands-on coaching to junior sailors of various skill levels, from beginners to advanced, focusing on safety, technique, and sportsmanship.The Director of Waterfront Activities will work with the Yachting and Junior Sailing committees to develop engaging programming to empower our members to perform at any level of sailing.
  • Safety Management: Ensuring a Culture Of Safety is maintained at all times is fundamental. Ensure all safety protocols are followed on and off the water. Conduct safety briefings, maintain equipment, and ensure boats are in proper working condition.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and mentor junior instructors and volunteer coaches, ensuring effective delivery of instruction and engagement with participants.
  • Event Coordination: Lead the organizing and running clinics, sports group sailing, novice junior sailing, and other sailing events, including the preparation and distribution of schedules, equipment, and support resources.
  • Communication: Maintain clear, ongoing and timely communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, schedules, and program updates.
  • Boat Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep of the club’s sailing fleet, ensuring all boats and gear are properly maintained, repaired, and prepared for use.
  • Club Engagement: Promote sailing activities and foster positive relationships within the club, encouraging participation and growth of the program.
