Job Description
The Duxbury Yacht Club is seeking to hire a full-time Director of Sailing for the summer of 2022.
Located on Duxbury Bay, the DYC serves 50+ kids ages 5-16 who learn to sail and race in Optimists, O’pen Bics and 420s in a unique tidal environment. The Club’s location, on a bustling waterfront and next door to the Duxbury Bay Maritime School, offers a fantastic sailing community and unique opportunities to collaborate. With new boats purchased in 2021 and the introduction of new programming for adults in 2020, the DYC is committed to growing its junior and adult sailing programs. In addition, the Club is focused on increasing member engagement with Duxbury’s waterfront environment through fun and effective activities and events.
The Director of Sailing at the DYC will develop and oversee quality Junior and Adult programs intended to teach sailing in a fun, safe and nurturing environment, which follow US Sailing guidelines in a creative and thoughtful way and work within the unique Duxbury Yacht Club environment.
The Director of Sailing is a full-time position from June 13 through August 19 (approximately), as well as off-season deliverables, including staff hiring, program development, fleet management and scheduling as needed over the year to execute and oversee our 8-week Jr sailing program, our new adult programming [and our weekend
summer racing series].
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Hire, direct and supervise staff
  • Communicate directly with parents and junior sailor
  • Report regularly to DYC Sailing and Jr Sailing Chair
  • Oversee and develop curriculum, lesson plans for juniors /adult\
  • Oversee and participate in fleet maintenance
  • Oversee and participate with on and off the water teaching and mentoring
  • Develop schedule for local junior regattas; communicate with parents and junior sailors about regattas; oversee and/or participate in coaching and logistics for local regattas (e.g. trailers, safety equipment etc.)
  • Conduct end-of-season performance reviews for instructors and curriculum identifying strengths and areas that could be improved.
  • Oversee preparation of end-of-season written evaluations and recommended succeeding year class assignments for each junior sailor]

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
-Experience, vision and enthusiasm to continue to build our Junior Sailing program
-Previous Jr Sailing Instruction and program management experience
-US Sailing Level 1 certification at a minimum, Level 2 or 3 preferred
-Knowledge of all aspects of sailing, regattas, etiquette, and sportsmanship
-Excellent communication and management skills
-Interest in potentially pursuing long tenure in the position

Compensation:
10-week full-time employee of the Duxbury Yacht Club, along with typical off-season work (staffing, planning, etc.) with competitive pay commensurate with experience [end date potentially flexible]
Access to all Duxbury Yacht Club facilities, including waterfront, pool, golf course and tennis courts, for the Director of Sailing, spouse and children
