Position Overview
Tabor Academy, the “School by the Sea,” seeks an experienced and inspiring leader to serve as the Director of the Tabor Sailing School for Summer 2026. The Director will oversee all aspects of the program, ensuring that each participant and staff member has a safe, engaging, and meaningful experience.

The Tabor Sailing School serves novice through elite sailors and operates as part of Tabor’s expanding summer auxiliary initiatives in partnership with other external sailing organizations. The Director will design, manage, and deliver a dynamic curriculum that fosters skill development, teamwork, and a lifelong love of sailing.

Tabor Academy aims to be a premier destination for competitive sailing in the United States. Leveraging its coastal location, waterfront, and resources, the program provides pathways for sailors of all abilities to enjoy and grow in the sport. The school seeks a driven, dedicated, and solutions-focused leader to establish and develop this signature program in its inaugural year.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Management

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the daily operations and curriculum of the Tabor Sailing School, including both the Development Class (Novice and Intermediate level sailors) and Racing Class (competitive sailors).

  • Ensure the highest standards of safety, instructional quality, and program excellence in all sailing activities.

  • Coordinate with the external organizations and other community partners to deliver programming and regatta experiences.

  • Support the SIP Director and Tabor Summer Camp Director to manage daily logistics for participants' pick-ups, drop-offs, and transitions between camp, sailing, and afternoon activities.

Staff Supervision and Training

  • Work with the SIP Director to recruit, train, and supervise sailing instructors, coaches, and support staff.

  • Work with the SIP Director to design and run staff orientation during the week prior to the start of camp.

  • Foster a professional, positive, and inclusive team culture that prioritizes student growth, collaboration, and fun.

  • Work with the SIP Director to conduct regular safety drills, staff evaluations, and performance feedback.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Maintain strict adherence to all maritime and Tabor Academy safety protocols.

  • Ensure all boats, equipment, and safety gear are inspected and maintained daily.

  • Serve as primary point of contact for any incidents, emergencies, or risk assessments on the water.

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Design and oversee a progressive instructional sequence:

    • Development Class: Focused on fun, fundamentals, and building confidence on the water.

    • Racing Class: Includes the racing team (regatta participation) and more advanced sailors striving to improve their skills and sailing acumen through internal competition.

Partnerships and Communication

  • Collaborate closely with Director of Strategic Programs & Initiatives, Summer Camp leadership, and other external sailing organizations to ensure participant safety and maximize participant and staff experience.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, students, and partner organizations.

  • Promote the program’s mission to inspire the next generation of sailors and ocean stewards.

Housing & Food: Dormitory housing available if needed. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided. 

Reports To: Director of Strategic Initiatives & Programs

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in sailing instruction, coaching, or program management.

  • US Sailing Level 2 or higher certification (or equivalent) preferred.

  • Proven ability to lead a team, manage risk, and deliver exceptional youth programs.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Experience working in collaboration with yacht clubs or competitive sailing organizations preferred.

  • Commitment to Tabor Academy’s mission and the values of excellence, integrity, and respect for the natural environment.

  • Canidate must be eligible to work in the United States. 

Schedule and Commitment

  • Full-time seasonal position from June 15th – August 3rd, 2025.

  • On-site daily leadership presence is required.

  • Some evening or weekend work may be necessary for regattas and special events.

  • Housing provided if needed; no residential supervision duties required.
