Job Description

The Key West Community Sailing Center (KWCSC), located in the heart of beautiful Key West, Florida, is seeking a Director of Youth Education to join our three-person leadership team. We are looking for a highly organized, self-motivated professional with excellent communication skills who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is a team player who will work closely with the leadership team to achieve collective goals while leading initiatives that strengthen our youth sailing programs, increase student participation, and expand program reach.

This is a multifaceted position and affords the opportunity to grow, develop, and evolve over time.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

  • Youth Program Development: Lead efforts to expand and strengthen our youth programming, including instruction, curriculum development, and recruitment of additional instructors.

  • Youth Scholarship Program: Manage KWCSC’s Youth Scholarship Program which includes and engages underserved and low-income families through community outreach and strategic partnerships.

  • Education Budget Oversight: Monitor education program income and expenses compared to annual budget goals.

  • Fleet Readiness: Ensure fleet readiness, efficiency, and safety.

This position includes a $6,000 incentive plan above normal pay based on performance towards predetermined primary responsibility goals. Additional benefits may be available and discussed with each potential candidate.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum US Sailing Level 1 Small Boat Instructor certification (Level 2 or 3 preferred)
  • US Coast Guard license (preferred)
  • Able to pass a background and drug test
  • Minimum two years’ experience as program coordinator or head sailing instructor of a comprehensive sailing program
  • Ability to work as a team with other leadership roles, and a volunteer Board of Directors
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent teaching a coaching ability
  • High level of competency handling a variety of motor and sail powered vessels
  • Basic technical proficiency
