Community Sailing

Sail Haven is a nonprofit community sailing program dedicated to sharing the joy of small boat sailing on New Haven's vibrant harbor. Our members range from complete beginners to seasoned sailors, but we all share a passion for being out on the water under sail.

We have an active social community that welcomes newcomers into the sailing lifestyle. Members enjoy gatherings on land and water as we operate as an all-volunteer organization. With reasonable membership dues, we aim to make sailing accessible for everyone.

Must have: CT Safe Boating certificate

Desired: US Sailing Small Craft Level 1 Certification (reimbursement available upon successful completion), First Aid and CPR certifications

Responsibilities include maintaining a boat sign out log for daily boat use by members and classes. And in the case of guests, securing liability waivers. Maintains control of boat use according to previously determined skill levels and membership status. Keeps track of all people and boats on the water and ensure that all people and boats return safely.

Responsible for rescues of any Sail Haven members that might be in trouble, such as not being able to recover from a capsize. Must inspect all returning boats for damage and make entries in the maintenance log. Schedules skipper test evaluations for potential members with available instructors or Senior Sailors. Provides information to anyone interested in joining Sail Haven.
