Job Description

The Dockmaster is a position based at the Harbour Court clubhouse in Newport, RI .This position will assist in overseeing all waterfront assets, staff and activities with the lead role in the day to day operations of the dock activity in the summer months. They will also assist at time with the ongoing maintenance of the club’s fleet of IC37s, Sonars, RC Signal Boat and RIBs. Seasonal dock staff will report directly to the Dockmaster. 

This person will:
  • Assist with management of all waterfront activities including dock and mooring commissioning and de-commissioning, hiring and training of seasonal dockhands.
  • Manage the day to day operation of the docks while in season including mooring reservations, dinghy dock management, communications to members, launch operations (including driving) and seasonal staff management.
  • Produce the weekly dock staff schedule at least two weeks in advance and monitor and adjust as necessary.
  • Maintain launches and docks and ensure they are clean and operational. 
  • Work with Waterfront Manager to organize USCG inspections of launches and drug consortium for all licensed employees.
  • Assist as directed with all maintenance, commissioning/decommissioning, launching/retrieving, and cleaning of all Sonar fleet, RIBs, and RC boats. 
  • Assist as directed with maintenance or other projects of IC37 fleet. 
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory of spare parts and tools and replenish as necessary. 
  • Utlize the boat management software including data input, schedule set up and execution. 
  • Assist as needed with Race Committee preparations. 
  • Other tasks as directed.

Job Requirements
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

- Expertise in implementing and following preventative maintenance systems.
- Hands on maintenance experience in all areas and systems of small sailboats, RIBs, outboard engines and inboard diesel engines.
- Appropriate use and application of marine paints, solvents, cleaners, adhesives, epoxy, gelcoat, etc.
- Minimum License: USCG OUPV. Masters 25-ton or above preferred.
- Boat handling skills on sailboats and motorboats up to 40’.
- Strong communication and training skills.
- Understanding of private club environment and core mission to support the value of membership in all activities.
- Punctual, effective worker, able to leverage down-season as effective planning and organizing time to enable efficient high-season operations.
- Self-motivated with initiative and a proactive approach to solving problems.
