Job Announcement: First Mate

Rozalia Project invites applications for a seasonal. full-time position of First Mate with cooking experience.. Rozalia Project is a non-profit organization working to clean and protect the ocean and conserve a healthy, thriving marine ecosystem. Rozalia Project leads expeditions aboard our 60’ Sailing Oceanographic Sailing Vessel, American Promise. Based out of Mamaroneck, NY this winter, Kittery, Maine in the summer, our Expeditions are a combination of marine debris cleanups, solutions based science research and education. Our 2023 season will take us as far south as NYC and North throughout the Gulf of Maine in the Northern Atlantic Ocean.


Position Summary

The position is for 4 months of work (May through end of August), involving approximately 10 weeks of programming on coastal waters. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, sailing as First Mate of Rozalia Project’s Research Vessel, American Promise, provision, meal planning and cooking with all ancillary duties.


Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • • HIgh School Diploma and a minimum of 2 years practical experience in education at sea or sail training.

  • The ability to meal plan (vegetarian), provision and be the lead cook with support from volunteers for up to 9 crew members of the summer expeditions.

  • • Must have a passion for Rozalia Projects mission with excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills

  • • Familiar with research vessel or sailing school vessel operations preferred

  • • The ability to multitask effectively, be flexible and innovative, and work non-traditional hours to support ships operating in remote locations

  • • A demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, staff, volunteers and outside agencies

  • • The ability to travel or go to sea for extended periods


Salary

Salary commensurate with experience. Up to $3,00.00 gross pay per month.
