The Fleet Manager/Adult Sailing Director is responsible for the general care and operation of the Club’s fleet of boats and adult sailing programs. Primary responsibilities include creating and promoting opportunities for members to sail, coordinating regattas, maintaining club owned boats, managing charters, and coaching. The position is year-round with flexible hours including evenings and weekends. The position reports to the LYC Waterfront Director.
-Work with various committees to coordinate the adult sailing calendar.
-Provide sailing opportunities for members including education, coaching, and club series regattas.
-Work with Bay Access (an associated company) Management to identify and coordinate Bay Access events that are open to outside competitors.
-Actively participate in committee meetings that are related to job function.
-Promote safety and best practices at every opportunity.
-Ensure compliance with agreements between Lakewood Yacht Club and Bay Access, especially as they relate to club owned or managed boats and regattas.
-Keep a contact list of local, regional, and national sailors that may have an interest in sailing at LYC.
-Maintain an open line of communication with U.S. Sailing and other organizations including national and regional authorities such as ICSA/SEISA, Texas Sailing Association and U.S. Sailing Area F leaders.
-Examine long-term opportunities for hosting nationally recognized regattas.
-Update website and social media regularly.
-Promote all adult regattas and programming regularly and well in advance.
-Manage all aspects of member charters, including certifications, paperwork, check-outs, etc.
-Track budget for club owned boats and events. Work with LYC Accounting to invoice charters.
-Repair and maintain club owned boats.
-Oversee and manage any outsourced/contracted repairs including warranty work, extensive fiberglass work, electronics, etc.
-Clean club owned boats.
-Assist in maintaining race committee resources
-Keep a small inventory of universal boat supplies.
-Maintain safety plans and equipment.
-U.S. Sailing certifications encouraged after start might include Small Boat Instructor, Keelboat Instructor, or Club Level PRO
-Perform other related duties as assigned.
