Job Description

Brown University Athletics is currently seeking candidates for the Assistant Coach, Sailing position.  Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).   

The Assistant Coach, Sailing will assist the Head Coach, Sailing in all phases of the Coed & Women’s Sailing Programs. This includes recruiting, student-athlete development, video analysis, coaching, and administrative duties such as maintaining logs and other compliance information.  This role will be responsible for maintaining professional conduct, positive sportsmanship and acting as a role model for the student-athletes. The candidate must demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills and must be able to work effectively with staff, faculty and other members of the University. The position supports all efforts to continue to attract the nation’s top sailors to our Division I non-scholarship program.


 
Job Requirements
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree, required.
• 1-3 years coaching experience with a competitive club, high school or collegiate program; Prior collegiate coaching & recruiting experience preferred (and/or a combination of coaching & competitive sailing experience)
• Competitive collegiate and/or international sailing experience, preferred.
• US Sailing Level I Certification, Level 2 Certification preferred.
• Substantial dinghy racing experience, preferred.
• Previous coaching experience in dinghies, preferred.
• Experience and strong knowledge base in Collegiate style fleet racing and team racing, preferred.

Qualifications
• Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League Rules.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication & computer skills, necessary
• Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students
• Excellent sport specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.
• Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
• Basic proficiency in excel, word, internet & email capabilities.
• Social media experience, helpful.
• Familiarity with ARMS and Teamworks, or similar, preferred.
• Prior experience with video editing software, helpful.
• Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport and ability to coach & motivate.
• The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background, Education and DMV check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
