Job Description

We seek an innovative and passionate sailor and educator to lead the development and implementation of our Youth Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) Sailing Programs called Set Sail Learn. You will be primarily responsible for our 4th and 5th grade sailing and science programs which serve close to 2,000 youth per year during the spring, summer and fall seasons. This position will report to the Youth Program Director and provide support to the Youth Program Director by implementing the STEM education programs. The successful applicant will be collaborative and coordinate support from our community partners (Benthic Labs and the California College of Arts). Additionally, a successful applicant will collaborate on the creation of new STEM programs, including soliciting grant funding for such programs. Since sailing programs are seasonal, the Head Instructor of STEM will be responsible for supporting the Youth Program Director in the planning and implementation of all Youth Programs.


To excel in this role, you should have a background in sailing instruction and education or science. A bonus if you have experience collaborating on writing grants or fundraising. We are looking for a person with strong interpersonal skills who enjoys a team environment yet able to independently lead projects.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with partners to update existing STEM curricula using a continuous improvement process model

  • Work with Program Director, Program Evaluator and Database & Analytics Manager to identify meaningful evaluation and metrics to track learning

  • Recruit STEM program participants by communicating regularly with school principals and teachers in the SFUSD

  • Coordinate instructors for STEM education programs

  • Train STEM instructors for consistency and excellence in teaching

  • Process program registrations

  • Coordinate with Program Director to hire Instructors and coordinate onboarding of new hires with Business manager

  • Provide communications and program summaries for newsletters, grants, and blogs.

  • Support Youth Program Director and Head Instructor of Progression Programs by providing sailing instruction and other administrative tasks as needed


 
Job Requirements
Passionate about teaching and the STEM curriculum
Bachelor's degree preferably in education or science related field
Proficient in Google Workspace products
Grant writing experience is a plus
US Sailing Small Boat Level I Certification (can be obtained in first 3 months)
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal and time-management skills
Maintain safety standards

Oversee and coordinate instructors and interns
COVID-19 vaccine, TB test, and background check is required
