Job Description
Southern Yacht Club based in New Orleans is looking to add another motivated individual to their waterfront team. Candidates will be reporting to the Waterfront Director, as well as working with the Head Coach, assisting them in our mission to provide a safe enjoyable environment for the members of SYC, and to maintain a high level of customer service. Established in 1849, Southern Yacht Club is located on the Southshore of Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, LA, adjacent to the newly constructed Municipal Yacht Harbor. With a newly rebuilt clubhouse in 2009, our facility offers dry storage for member boats, a dining room with a spectacular view of Lake Pontchartrain, a fitness center and 6-lane competition pool. We have an excellent teaching environment with quick access to our sailing area. Our sailors have won four Olympic medals and numerous national and international championships. For more than 150 years, Southern Yacht Club has always maintained a tradition of keen competition, sportsmanship and hospitality. In addition, growth in the biotech, medical, film and technology sectors has made New Orleans the fastest-growing community in the 25 to 35 year-old age demographic. The history, culture and food make it a fascinating city in which to live and work. Our Sailing Program offers year-round racing and clinics including junior programs, summer sailing camp and adult learn-to-sail. The Sailing Program fleet consists of 24 Optimists, 14 420s, 2 Sunfish, 5 Lasers, 14 Flying Scots, 3 Viper 640s, a J27 and 10 Coach Boats.
Job Requirements
The candidate should be a leader who is highly organized and self-motivated with excellent communication skills. A large part of this position includes communicating with parents, members, sailors, and other staff respectfully and effectively.
Optimist, Laser, 420, Adult Sailing/Keelboat experience preferred.
Primary responsibilities will include a combination of coaching, private lessons, general fleet maintenance, and yacht club event related activities. Examples of these responsibilities include coaching and program management of the intermediate level Optimist group in conjunction with the head coach; coaching and program management of the Adult Sailing program including private lessons and organized classes, and assisting the Waterfront Director & Head Coach with management and maintenance of all club owned fleets. Additional duties include assignments to other youth clinics as needed, as well as contributing to the operation of the Summer Camp program.
Competitive Base Salary (Exempt) + Available Additional Commission pay on Adult Lessons.

Base Salary (Exempt) Compensation based on experience. Commission payments in addition to base salary available for some types of coaching/instruction.

US Sailing Level 1 certification or higher, CPR/First Aid, Safesport
Experience – Sailing experience/sailing instruction experience preferred. Prior experience at a sailing center, yacht club, or similar organizations preferred.
