Job Description

  The Island of Hawaii YMCA is seeking a summer 2023 youth sailing instructor to instruct 10-17 y/o students in beginning and intermediate sailing. The camp begins 06/12/2023 and finishes 07/20/2023. The six weekly sessions run Monday through Thursday ( 4 days/week) 0900-1400 hrs, with the instructor on site from 0800 to 1500 hrs.  The week of July 4, the holiday will be observed and the camp will be held Mon; Wed; Thur; Fri.
There will be a maximum enrollment of 10 students/week. There will be a full-time experienced assistant throughout the duration of the camp as well as several adult volunteers to assist.
For beginners: the curriculum includes basic watercraft safety, boat terminology, and basic sailing skills; largely conducted in El Toro Dinghies and Toppers
For Intermediates: sailors will be introduced to a broader range of conditions and boat handling skills including the fundamentals of racing in Lasers and Fevas
Compensation is $20 -$25/hr based on experience; Housing  and transportation will be provided; Round-trip airfare from a west coast location will be provided.
Job Requirements
Preferably the candidate is college age or older and has held at least 1 similar position with an excellent referral from a coach or prior employer. The candidate will have a current US Sailing Small Boat Instructor certificate (or comparable). The candidate must also have completed and passed the US Sailing Teaching and Coaching Fundamentals Online or comparable.
