Venice Youth Boating Association is a non-profit US Sailing Accredited Community Sailing Center located in Venice, FL with beautiful year round sailing in local bays and the Gulf of Mexico. Currently VYBA has a 50 member school year sailing team and serves approximately 300 sailors in a summer sailing program. All of our current instructors are US Sailing Level 1 or 2 certified. This position will be a part time Head Coach position for the school year sailing with the option to remain for the summer program and beyond. The Head Coach’s primary responsibility is on-the-water coaching and oversight of other coaches for youth race teams including Opti Green, Opti RWB, 420 Club, Laser and High School Sailing as well as an adventure sailing program. The Head Coach should have extensive Optimist coaching experience to build a winning team. Additional coaches will work with the head coach for 420, Laser and High School coaching. Practice time typically includes practice three to four days a week, with additional duties including coach coordination and scheduling, lesson planning, and regatta travel planning. The school year race team and adventure sail program run from September until May. The Summer Learn to Sail program runs from June to early August. The Head Coach supports and coaches chosen regattas in consultation with the Executive Director. The decision to support and coach an event is based on number of participants, cost, distance, quality and competitiveness, and experience of the sailors. Coaches are responsible for travel coordination, coordinating chaperone volunteers and drivers, sailboat and coach boat transportation, and on the water coaching at travel/local events. Running hosted events is done in coordination with the Executive Director with shared responsibility for event registration, volunteer coordination, scheduling, and running high quality, safe regattas. VYBA currently hosts one youth regatta in the spring – Venetian Cup – and travels to at least one regatta a month with race teams (mostly regional with a few overnights)

The Head Coach will help organize the Awards Banquet and present awards to recognized and exemplary Junior Sailors.
The Head Coach will oversee and perform powerboat and sailboat maintenance in coordination with the executive director.
The Head Coach will help maintain the clubhouse classroom, boatyard and workshop and work with the director to determine needed inventory and purchases.
The Head Coach will assist the Director when needed with any Learn to Sail program tasks and communication with the Board, community and sailor families.
The Head Coach will be responsible for an annual Report at the end of each year for the Board and help with the monthly newsletter, upkeep of website and additional logistics as directed.
