Job Description

Venice Youth Boating Association is a non-profit US Sailing Accredited Community Sailing Center located in Venice, FL with beautiful year round sailing in local bays and the Gulf of Mexico. Currently VYBA serves approximately 300 sailors in a summer sailing program. All of our current instructors are US Sailing Level 1 or 2 certified. This position will be a full time Head Coach position for the summer 2021 sailing season with the option to remain for the school year race team and beyond. The Head Coach’s primary responsibility is on-the-water coaching and oversight of other coaches for summer learn to sail for Beginner Opti, Pollywog (6-8yr olds), Laser Beginner, C420 Beginner and some intermediate to advanced racing clinics for all fleets.  VYBA also runs several adventure sail sessions which include sailing, kayaks and paddleboards. The Head Coach should be over 18 and with updated Level 1 (or higher) US Sailing certification, CPR and SafeSport.  The position start date can be as early as May 10th (somewhat flexible).  Summer Learn to Sail program runs from June to early August.  Fall sailing starts September 1st.   More information on specific programs can be seen at www.veniceyouthboating.com

The Head Coach will work directly with the Executive Director and Summer Sailing Director on administrative, will manage junior coaches and provide on the water coaching and oversight of all programs.  Summer sessions run from 9am to 3pm each day, Monday to Friday.  

Additional Tasks include but not limited to

The Head Coach will oversee and perform powerboat and sailboat maintenance in coordination with the Director.

The Head Coach will help maintain the clubhouse classroom, boatyard and workshop and work with the director to determine needed inventory and purchases.

The Head Coach will assist the Director when needed with any Learn to Sail program tasks and communication with the Board, community and sailor families.

VYBA will help secure housing if needed.

Job Requirements
- US Sailing Level 1 Certification Required (including CPR/First Aid/SafeSport)
- US Sailing Level 2 or 3 preferred
- Must pass a pre-employment background check
- Working knowledge of 420s, Open BIC, Optimists, and Lasers as well as Whalers and RIBs (coach boats)
- Must be able to bend, stand, move, and participate in all related sailing activities
