Job Description: Head Sailing Coach, Lake Beulah Sailing School, primarily coaching racing sailors in X and Optimists.

Background: The Lake Beulah Sailing School (LBSS) is a community sailing organization. LBSS programs are presented at the Lake Beulah Yacht Club (LBYC) located in East Troy, Wisconsin on the shore of Lake Beulah. Both motorized coach and sail boats are housed on the grounds of the LBYC and in an on-premises storage building. The Program has been established to train new and experienced youth sailors (aged 6 to 16) in all aspects of small boat sailing. The Head Coach for this program must have experience, but also vision. He/she must be able to communicate well, be flexible and be a great sailing coach/mentor.

Summary: The Head Coach provides leadership to program and programming staff and oversees all aspects of the program development, curriculum delivery, promotion, and scheduling instruction in accordance LBSS’s goals. The Head Coach is responsible for the training and daily supervision of all program staff, program locations (on / off water activities), equipment and fiscal management, policy implementation and safety of all program locations.

Reporting to: Vice President of Sailing

Start Date: June 3,2024

Term: This is a Summer program beginning June 3 and ending August 3, 2024

Responsibilities:

1.       Head Coach for the racing program consisting of X boats and Optimists.

2.       Continuing the development and management of the LBSS training program on a day to-day basis.

3.       Evaluating, and mentoring LBSS coaches and instructors as needed to coincide with the curriculum. Observing and providing feedback to all coaches in support of quality management and continuous improvement programs.

4.       Managing and coaching the LBSS students and all supporters of LBSS on land and water daily.

5.       Representing LBSS at various regattas as a coach.

6.       Promoting LBSS programs and recruiting amongst likely participant pools.

7.       Promoting and working with all constituencies (including LBSS students, LBSS parents, coaches) to achieve the stated goals.

8.       Scheduling of staff for short, mid, and long term to work, events, regattas, and projects to meet goals.

9.       Reporting LBSS program metrics, operations data, and pertinent program data to the VP of Sailing and Board of Directors.

Job Requirements
Skills needed:

1. Sailing skills commensurate with a national class sailor. Experience in a major sailing program.

2. Significant coaching experience.

3. Proven management and leadership abilities.

4. Basic skills in all boat yard repair and maintenance.

5. Superior presentation skills including recruiting, fundraising, and sponsorships.
