Lido Isle Yacht Club:

Lido Isle Yacht Club has been a staple of the competitive Newport Beach sailing scene since it's inception in 1928. Our Junior Program is well equipped and heavily regarded as one of the most enjoyed and most comprehensive programs in the area. Operating off of a small and private Newport Beach island, our summers are filled with competitive racing, adventure sailing, and weekend regattas. Our fleet consists of Naples Sabots, CFJ's, C420s, Lasers, Lido 14s, and a large selection of power vessels. 

As a Yacht Club, LIYC finds identity in it's value and commitment to community. Parents and Yacht Club members will always be found working together to organize and support one of the many Junior Sailing events and are generally some of the friendliest people you will meet. 

As a Sailing Program, we believe in the power that sailing can have on young minds. We believe that providing some of the best working conditions and hiring some of the best people are what make that a reality. We work hard to provide thorough training to our staff and to empower them in the work place and thus, many instructors have been here for 4 or more years! 

Job Description: 
LIYC is seeking a Head Instructor / Shore Director to assist in the management of it's Summer Program and beyond. Specific duties will include (but are not limited to) assisting in program development, event management, and daily instruction.

• Able to maintain composure, exercise sound judgment and decision-making, and assess and mitigate risk under extended periods of stress
• Attention to detail in all facets of the work place.
• Ability to build rapport with students, staff, customers, YC members, and leadership. 


Primary Responsibilities: 
1) Operation and Safety: 

  • Check in with staff regularly and directly oversee on the water activity - making sure to maintain safety protocols and policies. 
  • Attend all staff training days and committee meetings. 
  • Provide information and reporting on Instructor, program, and student successes and shortcomings to the Sailing Director (SD) and work with to find timely solutions. 
  • Work with SD to implement sailing program changes as needed
  • Be familiar with club curriculum and available to aid staff in on and off the water activities, in any situation, at any time. 

2) Customer Service and Growth 
  • Cultivate a Kind and inclusive community
  • Build rapport with students, parents, and club members
  • Serve as instruction staff's first line of contact and defense when attending to any customer needs. 
  • Provide active and engaged supervision to students (and staff) both on land and on the water. 
  • Lead, facilitate, and participate in some on land activities during down time and/or when sailing is not possible. 
3) Marketing
  • Promote club social events and regattas to instructors and customers
  • Promote club racing programs and teams and encourage sailors to participate. 
  • Promote club adventure sailing and seamanship programs and encourage sailors to participate  
4) Racing & Regattas: 
  • Aid coaches / instructors in creating an inclusive team environment. 
  • Meet with and counsel coaches on instruction technique, drills, regattas, etc as needed.  
  • Be available for weekend regattas as assigned
  • Be prepared to travel up to 100 miles for local events (fuel, food, housing provided) or out of state for national level events (fuel, food, housing provided) 
  • Attend and coach at Sabot Nationals at the end of the season.

Start Date: As soon as March 1 2022 and preferably no later than May 1 2022

Job Requirements
-US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification, equivalent or higher
-At least 1 Year of Sailing Instruction experience. 2-3 years preferred
-A strong knowledge of small boat racing is preferred
-Completion of NASBLA-approved safety boat course OR CA state boaters license
-First Aid, AED and CPR Certification (or equivalent)
-Current SafeSport Certification
