Darien Junior sailing is a non-profit educational organization located at beautiful Weed Beach in Darien CT. Our program has developed sailors for 40 years producing “lifetime” competent sailors who go onto enjoy small boat racing, pleasure or large boat sailing and cruising in our coastal waters. We offer sailing lessons with guidance from certified instructors during our summer programs during mid-June to mid-August. We offer 1 session of two weeks And two sessions for three weeks at season’s end in August. We offer instruction on the Optimists for 9 to 12-year-olds, two sessions a day and Club 420 sessions in the afternoon for 12 to 18-year-olds with sailing experience. All between the hours of 9 and 5pm each day. Qualifications for our instructors include: A kid friendly attitude, with a background in dinghy and small boat handling [preferably from high school or collegiate sailing programs]. US Sailing Level 1 instructor certification, with current CPR and first aid Safe Boating Certificate valid in Connecticut. First-year Level 1 candidates will also need the Safe Powerboat Handling certificate that confirms satisfactory completion of on-water powerboat skills training.
