Job Description
The Barrington Yacht Club in Barrington, Rhode Island is seeking a Program Director for the summer 2024 Sail Training Program (STP). With a fleet of over 200 students and 54 boats, 20 Instructors, BYC operates one of the largest junior sailing programs on Narragansett Bay. 
For the position of Head Instructor, we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual. Our staff provides hands-on, minds-on instruction for students at ages 6-18 in Optimists, c420s, RS Visions, and RS Quests. You are charged with significant responsibility including:
  • Ensuring the one. the water safety of instructors and sailors
  • Assisting with coaching junior sailors in the fundamentals of sailing, racing, and seamanship
  • Managing Instructors and Instructors-in-Training
  • Aiding the STP Director with day-to-day delegation of maintenance of the Club’s sail and power fleet
  • Covering classes when instructors are absent
  • Assisting coaches with regatta travel and trailering
The term of employment will span approximately nine weeks from mid June to late August—which includes a set-up week, eight weeks of instruction, and several days to assist with fleet breakdown. Classes meet daily from 9 am - 4 pm and staff is expected to be on site from 8:30am to 4:30pm. There may be additional tasks outside of regular hours including assisting with Wednesday night racing and regatta assistance.

Job Requirements
Head Instructor is expected to have the following qualifications:
1. US Sailing Level One and Two
2. First Aid / CPR
3. RIDEM Safe Boating or equivalent
4. Significant experience in a youth sailing program
