Job Description

 

Primary responsibility is for Sacred Heart University (SHU)

 

60% of the position entails building the team both from sailors on campus and recruitment from high schools.  This involves on campus meetings, team organization and structure, student leadership direction, liaison with club sports to assist in marketing the team, etc.  ALL responsibility for the number of team members and incoming freshmen skill rests with the Head Coach.  Program director will assist and support these efforts.

 

The balance of the position is classic coaching with a bit of boat maintenance.

 

In addition, the Head Coach will support the nascent SBR high school teams with start up coaching and supplemental support.  The high school teams, after an incubator period, will be required to have their own coaches.

 

Time Commitment Outline: 

 

Fall 2023 - 10 weeks of 4 three hour practices each week

Weekend travel regatta attendance - may vary but 15 full days on average

 

Spring 2023 - 8 weeks of 4 hour practices each week, weather permitting

Weekend travel regatta attendance -  may vary but 10 full days on average

 

Boat maintenance - approximately 40 hours for both semesters

 

Job Requirements
Classic coaching skill for college dinghy sailors. SHU skill level is B/C
Certification from US Sailing Level 1 minimum, CPR, First Aid, Safe Sport
