Job Description

Join our team at the Sakonnet Yacht Club as the Racing Coach for the 2024 summer season! We're seeking a dynamic individual who is mature and responsible, but brings a sense of fun and energy to junior sailing. We offer a competitive salary as well as housing support for the right candidate.



Our junior sailing program boasts a team of instructors dedicated to teaching a wide range of classes, from introductory boating to competitive racing in Optis, C420s, Zests, Quests and Ynglings. Our students have an abundance of opportunities to explore sailing in a fun and supportive environment, and we encourage those who want to compete. Sakonnet Yacht Club has a vibrant racing team that actively participates in Narragansett Bay Yachting Association (NBYA) junior regattas throughout the summer. We host a junior NBYA regatta at home once a summer in addition to our own junior club championships.


As Racing Coach, your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing, supporting, and evaluating team and individual sailor goals
  • Creating and executing practice and regatta schedules
  • Coaching the Race Team during practices and regattas, including travel
  • Developing, updating, and managing a written curriculum, daily lesson plans, and clear goals
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for all aspects of racing teams, including both sailors and parents


The perfect candidate would possess the following qualifications and attributes:
  • US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Level 2 (required)
  • US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Level 3 (recommended)
  • Experience instructing juniors in a sailing program
  • Background in racing, preferably in Optis and 420s
  • Experience competing on a college sailing team
  • Dedication to fostering a love of sailing in junior sailors
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Eager to be a part of our well-established program and lead a group of passionate young racers
  • Flexible, friendly, enthusiastic, organized, resourceful
